Blackhawk grapplers finish at state competition

Senior Zeke Grounds and junior Aaron Hyde went to the Palace of Auburn Hills March 8 to represent the Brandon Blackhawks at the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 2 Lower Peninsula Individual Wrestling Finals.
‘It was kind of intimidating walking into the Palace,? said Grounds.
‘Your eyes are huge, looking around at everything.?
Grounds, who plans on attending the University of Michigan in the fall to study psychology, placed seventh in the individual finals (out of 16). He wrestled in five matches and won three. Aaron Hyde followed right behind Grounds, coming in eighth place.
‘The first match I lost was to the guy that won it all, and the second was more of a judgment call,? Grounds said.
‘It was frustrating, but I am over it.?
Grounds has been captain of the Brandon varsity wrestling team for two years now and wrestles at 285 pounds. He is not sure if he wants to wrestle at Michigan, but says he might have to give it a try.
