Brandon grapplers show improvement with two wins

The Brandon wrestling squad had a very successful outing Dec. 17.
The host Blackhawks won both their matches that evening in a quad meet, defeating Flint Northern 58-20 and Flushing 40-33 to improve to 8-5 on the season.
Against Northern, Austin Hickman (275) started out for the Blackhawks by pinning Andre Elliot in 1:46. Both teams forfeited at 103, then Dmitri LeFear of Northern won by forfeit at 112.
Brandon’s Brian Slaght earned a quick 23-second pinfall win against Delrico Shine before Jimmy Millar (125), Dylan Kent (130), David Geeham (135) and Ron Bessemer (140) all won by forfeit.
Marcus Pesavanto (145) earned another win for Brandon by pinning Davion Melson in 1:16. Northern then won two more matches before Brandon sealed the win with two victories, as Cody Sisk (171) pinned Joseph Blakeley in 18 seconds and Joe Turscak (189) pinned Antwan Taylor in 1:04.
Against Flushing, Millar (119) pinned Jeff Jones in 14 seconds after the Blackhawks had to forfeit at 112. Slaght (125) followed up with a pin of Kevin Fox in 2:41 before Fenton earned pinfall victories in the next three matches.
Andrew Hyde (145) got the Blackhawks back on the winning track by pinning Danny Gross in 2:48. Pesavento followed up with a pinfall of Jared Enos in 31 seconds.
Brandon’s other wins in their match with Flushing were as follows: Sisk (171) pinned Vinnie Putsy in 21 seconds; Turscak (189) earned a 12-4 major decision against Alex Ellerman; and Chris Shepard (215) won by default.
The Blackhawks return to action Saturday, Jan. 3 when they travel to Roosevelt for an 8:30 a.m. meet.
