Busy band camp starts season

An aerial view of the show in progress.

Clarkston High School finished a great week of Band Camp, Aug. 12-17. They worked very hard on their fall show in Tustin, Mich., for six days. They have over 160 members in the Marching Band which includes Color Guard. The show this year is entitled “Kinetic Sculptures.”
They started early every morning with breakfast before hitting the field for stretching, exercises, and learning drill.
In the afternoon they had lunch and broke into groups to practice. After dinner, all the sections came together and put drill, flags, and music together, ending about 9 p.m. – very long days but very productive.
On the last day they returned to the school and performed the show in the rain for friends and family.
They perform at home football games on Aug. 31, Sept. 14, Oct. 5 (Homecoming), and Oct. 19, and will compete at the Lake Orion Invitational, Sept. 22; Livonia Franklin Invitational, Oct. 13; Clarkston Invitational, Oct. 20; and Plymouth-Canton Invitational, Oct. 27.
The road ends on Nov. 3 when the top bands compete at Ford Field for the state championships. They were a finalist last year and look forward to making it back there for a chance to compete again in the finals.
