Cagers looking for first win of season

The losses that keep piling up for the Lake Orion boys? varsity basketball team are starting to affect their play, Coach Lance Davis said.
After a 42-60 loss at Avondale High School on Friday, the team is now 0-8 on the season.
‘We see glimpses of brilliance,? Davis said. ‘We’re just not consistent.?
The score was as close as 5-4 early in the first quarter. Then, Avondale had a run.
‘They made a couple of buckets,? Davis said, ‘and got up on us early.?
By the end of the first quarter, the score was 13-4 in favor of the Yellow Jackets.
The Dragons were then outscored 22-14 in the second quarter.
‘We never responded to their run. We accepted our fate, and that’s not good,? Davis said.
The score at halftime was 35-17.
The Yellow Jackets put the game on ice in the second half, Davis said.
Leading Lake Orion in scoring was Derek Schrauben, who had 14 points, and Alex Mayo, who had 13 points.
‘These small positives are being overshadowed,? Davis said, by the team being winless.
‘I knew it was going to be a season of patience. Not winning has made it more of an uphill battle,? Davis added.
The team needs to focus on playing with confidence, and together.
Davis said it’s not a matter of one player, it’s a matter of all five players coming together while running the offence, getting on loose balls and staying with the play before worrying about the next play.
‘They need to look within,? Davis said, adding that the players need to play for themselves, not coaches, fans or parents.
‘We have to learn to trust one another on the floor,? Davis said. ‘We have got to learn to play with a little consistency. We have to learn to play with more passion.?
The Dragons play at Stoney Creek tomorrow at 7. p.m.
