Car accident sends three OHS football players to hospital

Seven members of the Oxford High School football team were involved in minor injury crash in Oxford Township on Thursday evening, sending three players to the hospital.
At approximately 5:41 p.m., Oakland County Sheriff Deputies from Oxford Township responded to the scene of a two vehicle crash in the area of Oakwood and Gardner Rd.
A 17-year-old resident of Leonard, traveling north along Gardner in a 2002 Chevy Venture Van, ran a stop sign and was struck by a 2004 Jeep heading east on Oakwood, driven by an Addison Twp. resident, 56.
Three players were transported to POH Regional Medical Center by the Oxford Fire Department according to the accident report. Two were released with minor injuries.
A third player, the 17-year-old driver, was transferred to Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital for hip surgery, according to the report.
Passengers in the van were a 17-year-old from Brandon Twp, two 17-year-olds and two 16-year-olds from Oxford Twp. and a 17-year-old from Auburn Hills, all members of the football team.
The 56-year-old driver was transported by Oxford Twp. Fire Department to Crittenton Hospital for medical treatment. He was the lone occupant in his vehicle.
According to varsity head coach Bud Rowley, the players were on their way to a regularly scheduled team dinner at a players house following practice.
The responsible 17-year-old driver was issued a ticket for disobeying a traffic control device.
