Clarkston resident takes on new leadership role

Clarkston resident Barb Timm was recently installed as president of the Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO) Michigan State Chapter on May 14 at the statewide convention held in Troy.
She is a member of Chapter AW in Clarkston.
PEO is a philanthropic organization which provides scholarships, loans and grants to female students worldwide who are pursuing post high school degrees. Michigan PEO chapters also provide need based grants to women, men, and children in Michigan.
Timm was initiated to PEO in 1981 into Chapter BP Ypsilanti, her mother’s chapter.
She is a third-generation PEO and shares its sisterhood with her sister, sister-in-law, and two daughters. Her mother, Grace Cornish, was also president of Michigan State Chapter in 1985.
Timm received a B.A. in Anthropology from the University of Michigan in 1983.
For many years, she was a stay-at-home mom and volunteer. She served as director of FIRE (Family Inter-generational Religious Education) at St. Daniel Catholic Church and led the church Mothers Group.
She is currently on the board of Thello Orphanage International, a charitable organization which provides food and education for children in the Congo, and she works part-time chain stitching varsity jackets.
Timm chose the theme of “Wonder Women” as her focus for her year as president and was introduced on stage at the Troy Marriott by an entourage of her fellow chapter members dressed as super heroes.
