Clarkston Skiers compete in state championship

HARBOR SPRINGS — The Clarkston Girls Varsity Ski team ended the season with a third place finish in the 2024 MHSAA Division 1 State Championship at The Highlands of Harbor Springs, Feb. 26.
They finished with an overall of 110 points with 49 from the Slalom race and 61 from the Giant Slalom.
Skiers finishing in the top 30 in the Slalom race were Cameron Thomas in fourth place with a combined time of 74.12; Jenna Brown, 12th, 76.78; Lucy Roeser, 16th, 78.10; and Julia Verbeke, 17th, 78.94.
Skiers finishing in the top 30 in the Giant Slalom race were Thomas in ninth place, 69.97; Brown, 12th, 70.55; Verbeke, 13th, 70.85; and Roeser, 27th, 73.19.
The boys team finished in eighth place with a total of 244 points with 128 points from the Slalom race and 116 from the Giant Slalom.
Skiers finishing the top 30 in the Slalom race were Finn Ashley in 27th place, 77.88; and Ryan McKay, 29th, 78.24.
Skiers finishing in the top 30 in the Giant Slalom race were Ryan Bushroe in 19th place, 63.45; and M. Ashley, 30th, 65.51.
The girls team finished in first place at the Southeastern Michigan Ski League Championship with a total of 149 points, Feb. 20.
They scored 69 points during the Slalom race with the top four racers being Cameron Thomas in third place with a combined time of 51.21; Lucy Roeser, tenth, 55.21; Chloe Cook, 31st, 1:00.21; Lucy Savoie, 44th, 1:01.57.
The girls finished the Giant Slalom with 80 points with the top four racers being Thomas in fourth place with a combined time of 39.48; Roeser, seventh, 40.08; Cook, 27th, 43.61; and Hailey Derkacz, 42nd, 45.15.
The boys finished in sixth place with 215 points. They scored 95 points during the Slalom race with the top four racers being Max Ashley in 13th place with a combined time of 52.45; Finn Ashley, 14th, 53.16; Ryan McKay, 26th, 56.40; and Jeremy Nord, 42nd, 1:06.30.
They scored 120 points during the Giant Slalom race with the top four racers being M. Ashley, 24th, 40.55; Nord, 29th, 41.02; F. Ashley, 32nd, 41.80; Wyatt Janczarek, 35th, 42.40.
