Club of birders

Penny Briscoe describes a modern Purple Martin house at the March meeting of the Clarkston-area Backyard Birders Club at The Gateway. Penny has been a “landlord” with colonies of Martins for 34 years.

Bird aficionados from around the community crowded the Gateway for the Clarkston Area Birders Club meeting, March 27, to hear naturalist Penny Briscoe and her husband, Rick, discuss the Purple Martin.
Many were newcomers to the club. President Bob McGowan asked them how they heard of the club, and most answered “I saw it in The Clarkston News,” said club member Bill Haney.
“In great part thanks to you and the News, we had an overflow attendance last night at Birders,” Haney said. “Thanks much for helping us build the club to such a level of success, bringing enjoyment and information to many folks in our area.”
The club meets at 7 p.m. on the last Wednesday of the month at the Gateway, 7150 N. Main Street. All is free.
