Coulman, Skinner help Martians win home opener

Before a raucous home crowd, the Goodrich basketball team made sure they would have a good Christmas break.
Even Santa Claus was in attendance as the Martians defeated visiting Lake Fenton 58-52 in their first home contest of the year Dec. 19, improving their season mark to 2-2.
The win was a team effort, as 10 Martians found their way on the score sheet. Wayne Coulman led the Martians with 16 points, while Michael Skinner added 13 points and five rebounds. Craig Van Wagoner led the Martians with six assists, while Max Bell tied Skinner for the team lead with five rebounds.
Kyle Owen led Lake Fenton with 21 points.
Coulman sparked the Martians in the early going, scoring seven points (including a three-pointer) as Goodrich jumped out to a 12-5 lead after the first quarter. The two teams battled to a standstill in the second quarter, scoring 11 points each, as the Martians took a 23-16 lead into the locker room at the half.
Skinner stepped up his efforts in the second half for the Martians, scoring all 13 points (including two three-point shots) in that time frame as the Martians held on for the win. Brett Bowers chipped in with five of his eight points coming in the second half.
After their Christmas break, the Martians return to action Tuesday, Jan. 6 when they host Byron.
