Oxford Village President Pro-Tem Dave Bailey took a minute at the Sept. 24 council meeting to clarify some statements he had previously made regarding the Oakland County Sheriff’s dispatch center.
‘A while ago I was (on) a guided tour of the dispatch (center) that’s operated by the county and I want to make it very clear that in that time . . . I was impressed with the level of professionalism that I saw on the part of the dispatchers who work for the county, just as I’ve been impressed with the level of professionalism I’ve seen here, down the corridor, in our dispatch area,? he said.
‘I have never, ever in any place seen a dispatcher that I thought was behaving in an unprofessional manner,? Bailey continued. ‘I want to make sure that everybody understands that if any of my comments were interpreted to mean that I thought anything less than that about any dispatcher, whether here, (at) the county or anywhere else, that’s not what I intended.?
At the Aug. 27 village council meeting, Bailey made some statements regarding county dispatch that upset its employees and Undersheriff Mike McCabe.
McCabe, who lives in Oxford Township, attended the Sept. 10 village meeting to defend the county dispatch center, chastise Bailey for his comments and demand a public apology.
The comment that seemed to upset county officials the most was when Bailey said, ‘I think that unnecessary death is more likely to happen to us if we’re with the county than if we’re with our own people . . . I can’t help it. That’s just the way I feel.?
