Brandon Twp.- A 16-year-old boy who recently escaped from a minimum security facility in Mt. Clemens was arrested Jan. 8 after attempting to steal a vehicle in the township.
The youth, a former township resident, was originally incarcerated for a home invasion that occurred here in 2009 and escaped detention a little more than a week ago.
He found his way back to the township.
According to police reports, at about 3:21 a.m., Jan. 8, deputies responded to the 4100 block of Shamrock Court for a breaking and entering in progress.
The homeowner said he was awakened by a banging noise. He got out of bed and unlocked the laundry room door and heard more banging. At the front window, he saw a white male running down his driveway. He ran back through his house, grabbed a gun, yelled to the suspect, ‘What the hell are you doing?? and then fired two rounds into the air, telling police he was scared for his family.
The suspect had attempted to steal a GM Yukon that was parked in the garage, but in trying to get it out, he hit the garage wall, as well as a Saturn parked behind it.
Deputies tracked the suspect to the Sashabaw Meadows Mobile Home Park, following footprints in the snow. A K-9 unit then located the suspect sitting on a bench seat up against a tree in the 3600 block of Chestnut and took him into custody. A laptop computer was on the bench next to him.
Deputies learned the laptop was stolen from an unlocked vehicle in the 4100 block of Lake Knolls. The suspect has also been tied to the theft of a GPS unit from a vehicle parked in a garage in the 10500 block of Whitby in Independence Township that night.
Charges are pending and the suspect is currently lodged at Children’s Village.
