Clarkston Area Optimist Club members filled SCAMPers with hot dogs and summer fun at their annual field day.
“We have to prepare 400 hot dogs in two hours because of the staff, the volunteers and the SCAMPers,” said Optimist Robin Brose at the July 16 event at Clarkston Junior High School athletic field. “We have so much fun.”
“It gives a day of fun to the kids,” said Optimist Tom Middleton.
The Optimists are great supporters of SCAMP, said Hank Passmore, SCAMP program director.
“It’s a great day outside for field events,” Passmore said.
SCAMP provides summer camp in Clarkston for kids with special needs.
“I love it here. It’s a lot of fun to work with these kids, learn their stories, about where they come from,” said Cari Peck, who has worked with SCAMP for the past 21 years. “They light up when they see you. They’re waiting for that, they know they’re going to have a great time.”
