Fire safety made fun for kids at Paint Creek

Kids at Paint Creek Elementary School had a visit from Sparky the Fire Safety Dog and his friends at the Oakland Community College Oakland Fire Training Institute recently for some lessons in fire safety.
Students from the academy, along with firefighters like John Ewing of Lake Orion, a firefighter for Dearborn who helped set up the visit to Paint Creek, visited the school, providing information about fire safety and fire equipment demonstrations.
The academy students spent the day with kids in grades K-5, touring the school and even eating lunch with them.
Paint Creek PTO president Chris Murphy said she had gotten repeated requests from teachers to have the academy visit.
‘Fire safety education doesn’t get enough attention,? she said.
The academy has a spring and fall class, and each prepare for one month to present a fire safety presentation at area schools. At Paint Creek on April 20, 34 members of the academy were on hand to work with the children.
‘They tailor the lessons for each age group,? explained Murphy. ‘We did this here in the fall of 2002. The kids all look forward to it.?
