In their first action of the 2003-04 campaign, the Goodrich volleyball squad split the difference.
The host Martians went 2-2-1 at an early bird tournament Saturday, Dec. 20. They defeated Bendle 15-0, 15-3 and Imlay City 15-7, 15-10, lost to Lapeer East 15-6, 15-7 and split with Byron 18-6, 8-15.
Tara Garman had a productive day for the Martians, going 25-32 serving (78 percent) with 26 digs, 15 kills and eight aces. Alyssa Bertrand had 160 sets, 40 assists, 23 aces and 19 digs, while Betsy Seymour was 23-26 serving (88 percent) with 25 digs, 14 kills and three aces.
The Martians return from Christmas break Saturday, Jan. 3 when they compete in the Northwood Tournament at 8:30 a.m.
