Groveland hotel damaged in early morning blaze

Groveland Twp.- An early morning fire damaged a township motel and closed Dixie Highway for several hours.
The Parkway Motel, located in the 16000 block of Dixie Highway–about three miles south of Mt. Holly Ski Area- was damaged in the fire. Fire departments from Brandon, Groveland Township, Springfield Township and North Oakland County Fire Authority responded to the blaze at about 1 a.m Saturday.
Although the cause of the fire was still under investigation, Groveland Township Captain Jeremy Chesnutt said that a faulty ventilation fan located in the attic owners? unit was suspected.
Firefighters were hampered by sub- zero temperatures and ice, however the blaze was extinguished in about 30 minutes. Still, firefighters remained at the scene until about 5 a.m.due to an extensive overhaul of the motel contents to prevent rekindling of the fire.
All motel occupants escaped, however, a Groveland Township female firefighter was injured after falling on the ice. A male firefighter received minor back injuries. Both firefighters were treated at local hospitals.
