KEISER’S ROLE: Happy Mother’s Day Mama

In honor of Mother’s Day on Sunday the People Poll question this week is “What’s the best advice your mother ever gave you?”
While asking this question it got me thinking about my own mother and just what a special lady she is to not only me but to our family. I have to be honest I can’t think off the top of my head the best advice my mother ever gave me, but I can assure you she has advised me over the past 31 years.
If I am being really honest, I wish I would have heeded to her advice on several occasions.
As a little boy I was convinced I could never do anything wrong because if I did mom would know. Often times she did and I was always amazed. She was a superhero. I later found out she knew things simply because she would spend her days praying for her family while she worked around the house. It’s one of the things I love about my mom to this day, her love and concern for her family and her faithfulness to pray for us.
My mom has always held high moral standards and with her there has always been a clear “right and wrong,” and “black and white” There was never a gray area with her. While I’ll admit this high moral standard was often times hard to live up to, it kept me from a lot of what I would call “foolish decisions.”
Often times in the back of my head I would think about my mom and how she would feel or react if I did what I was considering and I would decide not to. However, I didn’t feel like my parent’s high standards were thrust upon me, but they were simply lived out before me on a daily basis and out of respect and love for both my mom and dad, I simply didn’t engage in certain activities. Again, as I reflect on things said and decisions made, I definitely have regrets.
Though one thing is for sure , I would not be the man I am today without the love, discipline, respect, and Godly example of the woman who gave birth to me almost 32 years ago.
Thank you mom for all you’ve done for me and taught me.
Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms of Clarkston. I hope your day is blessed.
