When most people shop at Harvest Time (1125 S. Lapeer Rd.) in Oxford, they purchase some pet supplies or pick up some fresh produce.
But Jake Finseth found something different on Saturday ? a new friend.
The Oxford resident adopted a 2-year-old Collie-Pointer mix named Sadie, who was there as part of a fund-raiser/adoption event for the K-9 Stray Rescue League in Oxford.
Given Sadie is a ‘really gentle dog,? Finseth felt she was the perfect fit for his family, which includes two young boys and another dog named Millie.
Finseth is no stranger to adopting rescue dogs. Sadie is the fourth one in 11 years that Finseth and his wife have opened both their home and their hearts to. Millie is also a rescue.
‘There’s so many dogs that need good homes,? he said. ‘We have a vet in the family and he’s always talking about there’s so many dogs on the streets that need homes.?
In addition to finding Sadie and one other dog loving families to care for them, the Harvest Time event raised almost $600 to help support the K-9 Stray Rescue League’s kennel facility.
Most of the money came from Harvest Time’s sale of grilled hot dogs and fresh corn. Donations and t-shirt sales helped, too.
K-9 Stray Rescue League volunteer Marion Muir said these funds will help cover medical-related expenses for the dogs.
‘We’re getting a lot of dogs in these days with allergies or skin problems,? she said.
Muir is extremely grateful to Harvest Time for hosting this event.
‘They’re great supporters,? she said. ‘We thank them tremendously for putting this on for us. They definitely put a lot of hard work into it.?
The K-9 Stray Rescue League hosts regular adoption events at Harvest Time on the second and fourth Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. For more information about the group, visit www.dogsaver.org/k9srl
