Hitters focus on playing as team after first week

Clarkston Varsity Softball opened their first week of competition last week.
“Looking back at the week we learned a lot,” shared Katie Smith, head coach. “With no returning varsity players, I was very proud of each player on the team for their first week of varsity games. Going into this week we are focusing on playing as a team, carrying what we’re working on at practice into games and making adjustments.”
They opened the season with 14-0 and 16-5 losses against Grand Blanc, April 12.

During the second game, Alex Moore when 1-for-2 at bat with one RBI. Kaitlyn Ratich went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Graci Multhaupt hit a double which brought in three run. Scoring on runs were Jarvis, Moore, Ratich, Keira Tolmie and Ella Cady.
They lost to Stoney Creek in a double header on April 14, 19-9. Jarvis pitched. Ratich went 1-for-3 with four RBS. Cady went 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Jarvis went 1-for-3 with one RBI. Mackenzie Fazekas went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Kayla Cole, Tolmie, Moore, Ratich, Cady and Fazekas scored on the nine runs.
They lost the second game, 6-5. The second game finished in the fourth inning due to darkness. Gushen pitched. Tolmie went 1-for-2 with two RBIs. Cole went 1-for-2 with one RBI. Gushen went 1-for-2 with two RBIs. Cady, Multhapt, Fazekas, Gushen and Cole scored on the five runs.
They went 1-1 against Regina on Thursday, winning the second game 8-6. They lost the first game, 13-2.
Jarvis pitched in the 8-6 win. Tolmie went 2-for-1 with one RBI. Cady had a three runs on her hit. Cole went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Scoring on the eight runs were Moore, Ratich, Cady, Fazekas, Cole and Makayla Ervin.
In the loss, Gushen pitched. Ratich went 1-for-3 with one RBI. Cady went 1-for-3 with one RBI. Tolmie and Moore made the two runs.
Their game against Milford on Tuesday, April 20 was postponed due to weather. They host Imlay City on Thursday, 4 p.m., and Oxford on Tuesday, 4:30 p.m.   ~Wendi Reardon Price
