To the Wolves dismay Lake Orion took their revenge on Saturday morning.
The Dragon visitors beat Clarkston in five innings after scoring five runs at the top of the final inning, 13-2.
“We didn’t come to compete,” said Clarkston Boys Varsity Baseball Head Coach Phill Price. “Our kids didn’t play hard for the first time this year. They rolled over. You have to give Lake Orion credit, I thought they played well. We have a few kids that are playing well but it takes a whole team. You can’t have just a few kids playing hard. “
He added Jake Sims, Jassiel Gonzalez and Chase Toth had a good day on the diamond.
“They all had a great approach to the day,” said Price.
The Wolves started off the game with two runs from Toth in the first inning and Ryan Slaughter in the second inning.
The Dragons kept batters loaded on the bases in the fifth inning, securing the win with five wins added to their other eight.
The boys lost in their double header against Stoney Creek on May 24, 7-5 and 5-4.
Toth hit a triple and 2-for-4 and stole two bases in the 7-5 loss. Connor Morris also hit 2-for-4.
Toth hit 3-for-4 during the second game and had three stolen bases. Jake Sims hit 2-for-3 and had three RBIs. Andrew Fairse pitched and had two strikeouts.
The boys finish their regular season this week before they head into MHSAA District playoffs.
“We are hoping for a good week of practice, games and playing good baseball. Also, doing the right things,” said Price.
“We are a talented team. We just have to play up to our talent – bottom line. If we don’t play up to our talent it doesn’t matter.”
They are also hoping for sunshine after a wet season.
“It’s been awful,” said Price about the season. “It’s not a great situation but everyone is in the same boat.”
Though rain has canceled or postponed games the boys have rocked a 17-7 overall record and are 7-6 in the OAA Red.
They played Rochester on Tuesday and head to Milford on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
MHSAA District playoffs for the Wolves begin at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday at home against Waterford Mott.The championship game is set for 4:30 p.m.
