Maybe it was the borrowed golf shoes.
Maybe it was the used Titleist driver.
Or maybe just a few lucky bounces. Any which way, Zack Doyen played the par four, 352-yard, sixth hole at Brentwood Golf Course to perfection on July 15 with a hole-in-one.
‘Honestly, it’s 99 percent luck,? said Doyen, 24, a Brandon Township resident and 2005 Orchard Lake Saint Mary’s graduate.
‘It’s a blind tee shot and with a 300-yard tee shot, it’s about 50 yards downhill to the green. The course is dry, so the ball just kept running downhill to the cup.?
Doyen said he did not see the ball roll in the cup’so he looked for his ball in the nearby woods.
‘So I thought I’d look in the cup and there it was. At first I figured it was a joke’that people were just messing with me. So I asked the group that were playing ahead of us and they saw the ball go in the hole.
Doyen played golf for Brandon High School in 2002-03 before he transferred to OLSM in 2004-05 where he played both hockey and golf. Currently, Doyen is an assistant coach for OLSM varsity hockey.
