Everything is coming down to that final moment as the Oxford Volleyball Team prepares to take on their toughest competition at Districts this Saturday.
The Wildcats drew Davison for their first game, North Branch and Lapeer West both drew Byes, and Lapeer east will go up against Brandon.
“If all goes well, we should be seeing East in the finals,” said Coach Kristy McDevitt.
Oxford received a taste of what finals will be like on Feb. 26 in their second game against Lapeer East. The Wildcats lost the evening 13-15 and 12-15.
“I am disappointed in the loss because we spotted them 12 points in the first game before we rallied back to make it a game,” said McDevitt. “We scored 10 straight points, but ended up dropping the match.”
McDevitt said that East became comfortable in their lead, and began making some costly mistakes. The Lady Cats grabbed at the opportunities, and turned the game around. “Ironically, the same thing happened in the second match,” McDevitt added.
East scored seven points before Oxford even entered the boards, but the ladies rallied back and came close to winning the second game several times.
The loss brought the ladies to 8-5 in the league and 14-10-5 overall.
To prepare for Districts, the Lady Cats will be spending practice time ironing out a few of the kinks in the defense and offense. McDevitt said the girls want to play flawless against Davison, so they’ll be pumped for a Lapeer East beating.
“The girls know that in both time’s we’ve played East this season, the games could have gone either way,” said McDevitt. “The girls are pumped up and focused on making sure Oxford gets the win.”
