Letter to the Editor: Farm accoclades

We moved from the City of the Village of Clarkston to the Village of Lake Orion about two years ago.
I was recently reminded of my many letters to the editor in the Clarkston News, a tradition I am occasionally continuing with the Lake Orion Review. Letters to the local newspaper are truly a community asset that more people should take advantage of.
While there is always much to criticize, this letter is to recognize the great things that are happening at places like the Clarkston Family Farm.
I have been involved with the Farm since before it was The Farm. Now that we are retired, my wife and I can spend more time there and help with the numerous chores that all farms have.
The Clarkston Family Farm is different in many ways but one thing that stands out is the people that are there daily, getting things done.
Young and old, rich and poor, weak and strong are all making good things happen, educating people on where food comes from, and what it takes to make that happen.
I want to specifically recognize the young people, high school age or thereabouts. They are energetic, creative problem solvers who seem to really enjoy what they are doing at the farm. That is often rare for both young and old.
The recent Garden Party and Wally’s Farm Scholarship Fundraising gala in honor of Wally Niezguski was a wonderful display of these talents and the generosity of all involved.
These young adults give me hope for our future even as many of our political leaders cause me to question how we will survive.
We will because of people like this.
Stop by the farm, look around, buy a dozen eggs thanks to the chickens you just saw, and remember this is what a group of people working together can do.
