Letter to the Editor: Jose for the better

Independence Township has changed since my wife and I decided to make this our home and I can’t sit back and continue to watch it deteriorate without trying to correct it.
As a past planning commissioner of almost 20 years, I have been involved in local government longer than anyone serving now.
As a lot of residents know I am very active in the preservation of our community and the program with the Clarkston Construction Tech program restoring the Bailey House.
I wanted to share what I know about the candidates and my experiences with them. The supervisor’s job is to manage personnel and make sure the best services are provided to the residents. It’s amazing how many times I have had to remind them they run a service organization, not a private business.
Jose Aliaga is the best candidate for change. He has been a trustee for 12 years. He has committed to bringing in people from all over the township to participate. Civic groups, non-profits, community groups and surrounding himself with strong people to help him lead and protect the township from over development. He has listed in the paper his intentions, and I believe them to be genuine.
I have talked to Jose and he vowed to change the direction for development and how the residents are able to participate, to change the commission back to people who want to keep us a small bedroom community with the best amenities and services without selling us out for cheap housing and invasive commercial developments.
Gerald Fisher and Paul Brown will be business as usual! Shut out the residents, restrict public speaking, non-resident leaders and eliminate any opposition with a self-serving agenda.
If you believe in the same things, that we can do a lot better treating the residents with respect, and actually govern based on their behalf and wants, protect our neighbors and our community, I suggest you vote for Jose Aliaga.
