Letter to the Editor: Rush for Food thanks

Dear Clarkston Community,
Our 25th Annual Rush for Food was a success!
Every year, our Clarkston football and cheerleaders enjoy the opportunity to give back to the community that faithfully supports them. Football players and cheerleaders, from seventh grade through varsity, volunteered their time at grocery stores, the Sept. 1 varsity game, and at Lighthouse of Clarkston, helping to unload, sort and stock the pantry for Lighthouse North.
Our senior football players and cheerleaders also spent some time sharing advice with our Clarkston Chiefs athletes.
This year, we tested out a new Rush For Food format, and we are proud to say that we collected almost 10,000 pounds of food and toiletries, exceeding last year’s donations by almost 30 percent!
The support of the entire community for our event to help those in need is overwhelming, heartfelt, and appreciated. We extend special thanks for Kroger (Sashabaw, Dixie, and Maybee locations) for generously offering their entrances to collect donations from customers over two weekends.
We thank Clarkston Athletics for support during the varsity game for additional donations. We also thank many parents who volunteered at the event and helped transport thousands of pounds of donations to Lighthouse.
Thank you to every member of the Clarkston community who generously donated to make this year’s annual Rush for Food such a great success!
Together, we once again have proven what a wonderful community Clarkson is to live in!
Finally, thank you to the Rush for Food committee, including Amy Darnell, Amber Hunter, Tammy Olson, and Kim Zatell for their time, effort, and commitment in organizing this new format and executing our 25th successful event as we tackle hunger together!
GO WOLVES!
