Line scores 100th win

It was a momentous weekend for Oxford’s fierce tribe of warrior wrestlers.
Not only did the varsity grapplers take first place in a 14-team tournament held Saturday at Imlay City, but senior Zach Line secured his 100th career victory on the mat.
‘It was a great win, it was in the finals,? said Coach Scott Couch. ‘He’s wrestling tough and hopefully, we’ll see a lot more wins coming out of him.?
Line took first place in the 215-pound weight class.
‘A hundred wins is a big milestone,? Couch said. ‘There’s probably 15 or 18 guys that have done it in the last 10 or 12 years.?
Line is the second member of the team to score his 100th win. Just seven days earlier, senior Kyle Brammer earned his 100th career win at Detroit Catholic Central High School.
Brammer took first place in the 135-pound weight class at the Imlay City tournament. He’s now up to 105 wins.
Overall, the team beat out ‘tough kids? from Durand and Rochester Adams to win the tournament.
‘We had 12 guys place in the top four,? Couch said. ‘They guys wrestled great this weekend.?
Geoffrey Charles took first place in the 171-pound weight class while Bo Cantara tasted victory in the 140-pound class.
Finishing second in their respective classes were Mike Thomas (103), Matt Frisch (112), Mike Myer (140), Josh Villareal (189) and Dylan Smith (Heavyweight).
John Hessler (130) and A.J. Logan (160) took third place in their weight classes. Finishing fourth in the 119-pound class was Zach Miller.
Earlier in the week, the grapplers showed no mercy at Lapeer West as they slaughtered Brandon 57-9 and made short work of Swartz Creek 53-9.
The team is now 4-0 in the Flint Metro League and 12-3 overall.
Oxford will travel to Clio Jan. 23 to wrestle Clio and Fenton.
‘Next Wednesday (Jan. 30) is our only home dual meet against Linden and Lapeer East, which should be two awesome dual meets,? Couch noted.
