Local doc heads St. Joe’s emergency room

Dr. Rahul Mehta of Clarkston, MD, was named chairman of the Department of Emergency Medicine at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland last July.

In his new role, Dr. Mehta is tasked with developing, implementing, and evaluating the delivery of care inside the St. Joe’s emergency room, which treats more than 62,000 patients each year.
‘My goal is always to strive to be better and continue to push the envelope,? he said.
New, state-of-the-art technology contributes to the stroke, cardiac, senior care, and emergency services at St. Joe’s, which is a Level 2 trauma center.
New emergency room designs improve patient care by offering more privacy, quiet, and efficiencies, he said.
‘It’s all about make the patient experience better,? he said.
Dr. Mehta is also Deputy Medical Director of the Oakland County Medical authority that oversees EMS direction and control in
Oakland County. In addition, he was named president of the Oakland County Medical Society, a position he will hold for two years.
In addition to his medical career, Dr. Mehta’s family is actively involved in the Clarkston community. His wife, Melissa
Mehta, is a stay at home mother and director of operations at the non-profit ‘Choices Detroit,? whose mission it is to unite and support women as they fulfill their roles in the family and society.
Together, Dr. Mehta and his wife have three children, Hannah 15, Sophie 13, and Aidan, 11. His children have been students
at Everest Academy for more than a decade.
‘Both my wife and I wanted our children to have a Catholic education,? Dr. Mehta said. ‘We interviewed them and never left.?
They have lived in Oakhurst in Independence Township since 2009.
