Local scout retiring flags for project

Christian Guillery is a Life Scout in Clarkston Troop 199, and for his Eagle Scout project, Guillery is collecting and retiring old and worn U.S. flags with the Clarkston American Legion for the communities of Clarkston, Davisburg, and Ortonville.
Guillery has been in scouting since the second grade and is currently a junior at Clarkston High School.
“I hope to complete my journey in scouting by reaching Eagle Scout,” Guillery said. “For my project, I hope to give people the chance to retire their flag in a proper and respectful manner.”
The drop-off locations in Clarkston include the Clarkston Independence District Library, the Clarkston Post Office, Independence Township Hall, and the American Legion Hall on Ortonville Road.
In Davisburg, there are marked boxes in the Springfield Township Library, and in Ortonville, there will be boxes in the Ortonville Post Office.
“I request that if the flag the person is retiring has a story, please write that down and attach it to the flag,” said Guillery.
The collection locations will be available until Saturday, October 17.
