Chris and Julie Maier, of Clarkston, announce the engagement of their son, John Maier, to Elizabeth Cancel, daughter of Steve and Sheila Cancel, from St. Clair Shores.
The groom is a 2009 graduate of Clarkston High School and a 2013 graduate of Michigan State University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Human Biology and Pre-Med. He is an actuary at Gallagher and works out of the headquarters in Rolling Meadows, Ill.
The bride-to-be graduated from Fraser High School in 2009. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology and Pre-Physical Therapy with a Psychology minor from Calvin University in 2013, where she was also a member of the NCAA Division III women’s soccer team. She is currently a senior client service manager at Hylant Group in Troy.
John is the grandson of Tom and Sally Bullen, from Clarkston, and the late Bill and Joy Maier, of Flossmoor, Ill. Liz is the granddaughter of the late Carl and Betty Allen of St. Clair Shores, and the late Joe and Rosie Cancel of Eastpointe.
An October 2022 wedding is planned in Clarkston.
