Man in Baldwin rollover accident was drinking

Oakland County Sheriff’s Department accident investigators said a 25-year-old Lake Orion man who was injured when his vehicle rolled over on Baldwin Road on Dec. 28 had been drinking prior to the accident.
The OCSD and Orion Fire Rescue responded to the accident about 9:13 p.m. on Baldwin, north of Eaton Gate. The driver, Benjamin German, was driving his 1995 Chevy Cavalier northbound on Baldwin, when he suddenly lost control, went left of center and left the roadway, rolling the vehicle.
According to an OCSD report, deputies found the vehicle resting on its roof in a resident’s front yard. German, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle. Deputies said he was talking at the scene despite suffering severe head trauma, and they also reported a strong odor of alcohol.
According to the report, the man’s girlfriend arrived at the scene and said they had been arguing earlier about him going out to get more beer. German admitted to deputies that he had been drinking.
German was transported to Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital, where he remains in serious to critical condition.
