Mountaineer Update for October 20, 2021

The Everest Collegiate Football team secured their seat at the Catholic High School Prep Bowl this Saturday at Ford Field with their win over Royal Oak Shrine last Friday.
The Mountaineers won their game 27-13 and also became league champs.
The first quarter was scoreless.
Everest was the first to score in the second quarter. Jimmy Nedwick had a touchdown off a pass from Joey Thibodeau. Lucas Cross kicked the PAT to put the Mountaineers up 7-0 with 9:37 left in the first half.
Shrine answered with their own touchdown just two minutes later but missed their extra point, putting the score, 7-6.
With 3:27 left in the half, Johnny Nedwick had a touchdown and Cross had a PAT, breaking the tie.
Two minutes later, Thibodeau scored a touchdown. Shrine closed the quarter with a touchdown and PAT to put the score, 21-13.
The next score came with 1:10 left in the game with a touchdown from Mountainner Nathan Beggs.
Shrine fought for a final drive but a Mountaineer interception in the end zone ended the game.
A bonus to the night was the NFL flag football athletes played at halftime of the game. Varsity football players have been spending Saturday mornings coaching young Mountaineers in NFL flag football.

Clarkston Everest Collegiate Girls Cross Country took first place in the varsity small school division of the 37th Annual Gabriel Richard Invite on Saturday.
The Mountaineers scored 33 points and had five medal in the top 25.
Junior Alyse Felix finished in third place in the time of 20:59.30; junior Caroline Cross, seventh, 21:56.90; senior Avery Herrgott, tenth, 22:20.70; freshman Olivia Leahy, 14th, 22:48.80; junior Stephanie Suran, 21st, 23:18.30; freshman Erica Walker, 30th, 24:31.70; and junior Jessie Burns, 32nd, 24:59.70.
Royal Oak Shrine finished in second place with 50 points; Auburn Hills Oakland Christian, third, 58; and Homer, fourth, 92.
The Mountaineers finished in eighth place in the JV Medium/Small School Division race.
Freshman Natalie Cross medaled in the JV race finishing in 22nd place in the time of 23:31.35.
The Mountaineers compete in the CHSL C/D Championships this Friday at Willow Metropark.

Everest Varsity Volleyball lost their game to Our Lady of the Lakes on Thursday, 3-1. The Mountaineers won the second set, 25-15. OLL won their three sets, 25-15, 25-16 and 25-17.
The Mountaineers had their final regular season home game on Monday and posted a 3-0 win over Genesee Christian, 3-0, 25-16, 25-12, 25-15. They also honored their seniors during the night.

Everest Collegiate Boys Varsity Soccer did not play last week as they prepared for the postseason.
They opened playoffs with a 5-0 win over Bloomfield Hills Roeper on Monday in the MHSAA Division 4 District 58 semifinal.
Mark Cross and Lucas Cross scored two goals each. Isaac Cross scored one goal in the shut out.
Everest (14-2-5) plays Royal Oak Shrine Catholic (14-4) int the district final on Thursday. Shrine hosts the final set for 7 p.m.
The district champion will move on to Regional 15 playoffs at Auburn Hills Oakland Christian. The semifinal is Tuesday, Oct. 26 at 4 p.m. and the finals is Saturday, Oct. 30 at 11 a.m.
