Netters bow out in District playoffs

The varsity volleyball team suffered a four set loss in the opening round of Districts to Rochester on Nov. 2.
The Wildcats lost game one 25-23 before coming back and winning game two 27-25. Rochester then took game three 25-22 before cruising to a 25-18 victory in the fourth and final set.
‘We just couldn’t get anything clicking,? said head coach Kristi McDevitt. ‘We could climb from behind to within a point of tying and somebody would miss their serve. We just lacked that focus to preform when we were in tight spots.?
Leading the Wildcats were senior Tammy Toteff and junior Kate Bailey with nine kills a piece. Junior Maggie Rourke had 18 digs and freshman blocker Darien Bandel had five blocks.
Oxford finished with a 35-18-10 record.
Even with the bow out, McDevitt said the overall season for the entire volleyball program was positive and indicated a bright future. Both the freshman and junior varsity teams went undefeated in league play and captured numerous trophies.
