New ambulance station in township

A building on Maybee Road is vacant no more.
Medstar, Michigan’s most integrated EMS and mobile healthcare provider, has opened a new station in Independence Township.
“We chose this location because it allows us to serve several northern Oakland County communities and healthcare facilities,” said Kevin Wilkinson, Medstar vice president of clinical and educational services. “We will work with communities that are interested in primary or backup 911 service, and their 911 volume will be determined by those discussions. We will continue to serve our stakeholder health systems (Ascension, Henry Ford, and McLaren) facilities in the area, and currently care for 10-12 patients each day from those facilities.
“We look forward to investing in advanced clinical and response safety equipment into the North Oakland County communities, as well as workforce development initiatives to assist individuals interested in careers in EMS, hospital-based healthcare, and or public safety. As a non-profit community service, investing in our providers, as well as the communities that we serve, is a key component in our mission.”
The new location at 5255 Maybee Road, which opened July 9, enhances services to patients and healthcare stakeholders in Northern Oakland County.
“The new station will better serve the area for years to come and benefits our mutual commitments with the Independence Township Fire Department,” said Kolby Miller, Medstar CEO.
“We greatly appreciate Independence Township leadership for expediting the renovations of this building and welcoming us into their community.”
The Independence Township station is Medstar’s second location in Oakland County after opening a Southfield station earlier this year.
