Outstanding in their field

On May 30, more than 340 H.T. Burt Elementary students participated in an all day, last hurrah field day. Parent volunteers Kamla Long and Ann Smith organized the events directed toward skill levels of the first-fifth graders. Students participated in relay races, long jump, javelin, broad jump, a 50 yard dash, horseshoes, giant puzzle, scooter relay, volley beach ball, water balloon toss, sack races and buddy walkers. Ashley Miller, 7, a second grade student completes the long jump.

The Martians varsity baseball team is back for their 2008 season and ready to take over the fields.
‘We have nine returning players from a team that won 29 games,? says Varsity Baseball Coach Bob Foreback.
The varsity team consists of 15 players, nine of which are returning All League Players; Brett Johnson, Nick Bourassa, Rami Musafa, Caleb Jones, Steve Hughes, Luke Harrison, Joe Zito, Bobby Short, and Jake Bourassa. Also on the team are Kyle Fitch, Kyler Elsworth, Luke Jensen, Steve Worley, Javi Perozo, and Dustin Smith. Brett Johnson, a senior, is the team captain for the 2008 season.
The Martians have been League Champions 12 times, including the 2007 season, District Champions eight times, Regional Champions twice, and have been in the Final Four twice.
Head Coach is Bob Foreback and Assistant Coach is Greg Yalland. Foreback has had a record of 363-131 in 13 seasons. Last year’s overall record was 29-8 and their league record was 14-2.
‘I am expecting big things from this team, but everything will come down to pitching, like it does with every baseball team in the state.?
The Martians started out their season with one win over Lake Fenton 7-5 and one loss to Lapeer East 11-10. The boys will play on their home field at 4 p.m. on April 7 against Genesee High School.
