Oxford girls 2-0 in FML

The Oxford varsity girl’s field and track team solidified a nice 2-0 record in the Flint Metro League after last Wednesday’s win against Swartz Creek and Linden and are ready to be number one in the league.
Oxford saw outstanding results in the 3200-meter relay against Swartz Creek with Danielle Kelley, Jessica Pyke, Keeona Ives and Kate Wolanin taking a first place win (11:49.56).
The Wildcats also dominated the hurdles, 800-meter relay, long jump, high jump and shot put events as well, leading them to a 91-46 win against Swartz Creek.
Against Linden, the girls won 71-64, and saw captain Shaunte Waller take first in the shot put and discus, Hannah George take first in the 400-meter dash and captain Jacqui Sylva take first in the 100-meter dash.
Head Coach Andrew McDonald said this was the first time in his coaching career at Oxford that the girl’s team beat Linden.
‘I thought both teams competed well,? he said.
The boy’s team was able to secure a 1-1 league standing after beating Linden 71-64 and losing 44.67-92.33 to Swartz Creek.
At Linden, the boys took first in the 3200 relay, 110-meter hurdles, 800-meter relay and 400-meter relay.
Andrew Klimbal took first in the 400-meter dash, captain Andrew Moll took first in the 300-meter hurdles and captain James Nelson took first place in the 200-meter dash.
Oxford fell to Swartz Creek in all events except the 3200, 800 and 400-meter relays.
On Saturday, the teams traveled to Milford for a non-league meet for the Balawajder Classic.
Oxford’s varsity track teams placed 13th out of the 16 teams competing.
The Wildcats travel to Lapeer West today at 4 p.m. for their next meet.
