SCHOOLS OF CHOICE PROGRAM
The Oxford Area Community Schools in Oakland County will continue to operate a schools of choice program on a limited basis for the second semester of the 2003-2004 school year. Because of limited space in our schools, the following are the only openings available:
10th grade – 6 openings
11th grade – 3 openings
12th grade – 3 openings
Applications will be accepted from non-resident students residing within the Oakland Intermediate District and districts outside Oakland County that border our district through February 10, 2004.

Please take notice that due to the resignation of Steven Drakos, effective February 20, 2003, one (1) seat is vacant on the Oxford Board of Education seven (7) member board.
The State of Michigan General School Laws states that board member vacancies shall be filled within 30 days from the effective date of a resignation. The vacancy shall be filled with a legally qualified person who is appointed by a majority vote of the remaining members of the board at a regular or special meeting of the board. The person appointed to fill a vacancy shall file acceptance of the office, including an affidavit of eligibility, with the secretary of the board, and shall take the oath of office as prescribed by law. The appointee shall hold office until the next annual school election.
Interested parties must follow the recommended procedure:

NOTICE OF A PUBLIC HEARING ON PROPOSED 2003-04 BUDGET
PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that on June 24, 2003 at 7:00 o’clock p.m. at 105 Pontiac Street, Oxford, Michigan, the Board of Education of Oxford Area Community Schools will hold a public hearing to consider the district’s proposed 2003-04 budget.
The Board may not adopt its proposed 2003-04 budget until after the public hearing. A copy of the proposed 2003-04 budget including the proposed tax millage rate is available for public inspection during normal business hours at 105 Pontiac Street, Oxford, Michigan.
The property tax millage rate proposed to be levied to support the proposed budget will be a subject of this hearing.

Please take notice that pursuant to the provisions of the Consolidated Election Law enacted in December of 2003, the Board of Education of Oxford Area Community Schools will conduct a public hearing on the establishment of a new regular election date pursuant to law.
The dates authorized by law for school regular elections are:
(a) The odd year May regular election date.
(b) The general election date in both even and odd years.
(c) The May regular election date in both even and odd years.
The Board has tentatively established May as the regular election date on a(an) annual basis.
The hearing will be held in the Crossroads for Youth in the district at 7:00 o’clock in the p.m. on the 26th day of October 2004.
If the Board of Education fails to approve the tentative election date or any other date authorized by law, the regular election will be held at the odd year general election held in November commencing with the election to be held November 8, 2005.
The Board of Education is authorized by law to adopt a resolution setting the regular election date immediately subsequent to the public hearing.

Applications for absent voter ballots may be secured from the Board of Education Office, 105 Pontiac St., Oxford, MI 48371.
Statutory grounds for requesting the applications are any of the following:
I expect to be absent from the community in which I am registered for the entire time the polls are open on election day.
I am physically unable to attend the polls without the assistance of another.
I cannot attend the polls because of the tenets of my religion.
I have been appointed an eleciton precinct inspector in a precinct other than the precinct where I reside.
I am 60 years of age or older.
I cannot attend the polls because I am confined to jail awaiting arraignment or trial.
No applications will be received after 2:00 p.m. on Saturday prior to the election.

Notice is hereby given that Monday, May 17, 2004 is the last day to register to vote or change your address for the above stated election. Two candidates will be elected to serve on the Oxford Board of Education, and three candidates will be elected to serve on the Oakland Community College Board of Trustees.
If you are not currently registered to vote or have changed your address in the above stated jurisdiction in which you live, you may do so at the following locations and times listed in this notice.
Qualified electors may also register to vote or change their address in the following manners:
In Person
? At your city or township clerk’s office or at the office of any county clerk during normal business hours.
? At any of the Secretary of State Branch offices located throughout the state during normal business hours.
