The students council and Pioneer Club at Pine Tree Elementary School recently presented the American Cancer Society with a check for $1,000, money raised from a sucker sale and bake sale held at the school. A team from Pine Tree also helped raise money by participating in the society’s recent Relay for Life, a 24-hour relay held this year at Lake Orion High School. Kelly Vigilante of Team Pine Tree said they were able to raise $84,000 in their first year of participation, breaking the former record of $72,000. She said the school wanted to help out to honor the late Debbie Rouse, a Pine Tree teacher who died of cancer, and others from the school who were affected by it.
