Pinwheels for prevention

Pinwheels for prevention

The month of April has arrived and with it comes the Clarkston Area Youth Assistance Pinwheels for Prevention program.
Since 2016, this program has been coordinated for the Clarkston community and coincides with the nationwide campaign for April that is Child Abuse Prevention Month. The pinwheels campaign proactively promotes the health and well-being of local children and youth.
After five years, some in the community have not yet noticed the blue pinwheels and if they have seen them, know little about them.
CAYA wants more community members to know about April’s blue pinwheels. To make the pinwheel gardens more meaningful and interactive, there is a sign in every garden, large and small, for example, ”Blue Pinwheels remind me to help youth feel safe, hopeful, and welcomed throughout the community.”
Engagement often starts by seeing a pinwheel garden. Each year, more community members plant pinwheel gardens and become Pinwheel supporters, neighbors, or friends to support CAYA’s programs and projects that help prevent and mitigate child and adolescent adversity in all of its forms, including child abuse.
In April 2021, there were 62 pinwheel gardens featuring more than 1,500 blue pinwheels spinning across the Clarkston community.
