Public meeting for culvert replacement

The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC), in partnership with Independence and Waterford townships, will host a public information meeting Wednesday, Feb. 9, about the planned 2022 culvert replacement and paving project on Mann Road, from Clintonville Road to Floretta Street on the border of the two townships.
The meeting is from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Sashabaw Middle School’s Large Group Instruction (LGI) Room C, 5565 Pine Knob Road in Independence Township. The meeting will be open-house format — there will not be a formal presentation. RCOC staff will be present to answer questions throughout the meeting.
Anyone attending the meeting will be required to wear a mask per school policy.
The approximately $1 million project is funded by RCOC, Independence Township, Waterford Township and Oakland County general government through the Tri-Party Program.
The project includes:
1. Remove and replace the Sashabaw Creek culvert under Mann Road.
2. Pulverize the existing pavement on this section of Mann Road and repave with asphalt.
3. Replace the guardrail in the vicinity of the culvert and make minor drainage improvements.
Construction is expected to start in the summer of 2022 and conclude in early fall of 2022. During the culvert replacement work, Mann Road will be closed to through traffic for approximately 21 days. During the closure, access to homes and businesses within the construction zone will be maintained.
The proposed detour for through traffic during the culvert work is Rattek Road to Genoa Road to Pine Knob Lane to Maybee Road to Clintonville Road and back to Mann Road and vice versa. Rattek and Genoa roads a portion of Pine Knob Lane are private streets. RCOC staff will approach the residents of these streets to discuss using them for the detour route and will be available to discuss the detour route during the Feb. 9 public meeting.
