With the college hockey season here, Maya Roy is set for her junior season at Adrian College.
After the 2021-22 season, Roy was named All-NCHA (Northern Collegiate Hockey Association), capping a year that saw the Clarkston native tally three goals and 14 points in 27 games for the Bulldogs, a nationally-ranked team that plays at the NCAA Division III level.
“At the beginning of my freshman season, I got injured in practice, causing me to need surgery and not play all season, so personally, I was really excited to get back on the ice with the team,” said Roy, a 2020 Clarkston High School graduate. “I feel that we had a decent season, but we have a lot of room to continue to grow as a team, on and off the ice.
“We have some unfinished business coming into this season and I think that has us all fired up.”
On taking home All-NCHA accolades, Roy said she was “really surprised and honored.”
“Going into last season, I was really worried I wouldn’t get back to where I was before my injury, so it felt good to know that all the work I put into getting healed and to be in good enough condition to play really meant something,” Roy said.
In the classroon, Roy is majoring in Marketing and says she’ll potentially get her Master’s degree in Business or Sports Management.
Back home, Roy has lived in Clarkston her whole life. She attended preschool at Clarkston Co-Op, elementary school at Independence Elementary, Sashabaw Middle School, Clarkston Junior High, and then CHS
“I like the small-town feel, the good restaurants, and most of all, the friendships I’ve made growing up here,” Roy said.
Moving forward, Roy has reachable goals and aspirations for herself, both on and off the ice.
“Going into this season, I want to continue to push myself, giving my all both on and off the ice,” said Roy. “I’m also planning to continue to focus on the mental and physical aspects of my game leading into this next season of hockey and throughout it. With the work I have done this summer, I am hoping to start the season strong while being a positive and consistent contributor to the team.”
