Runners head to regionals

Runners took second place at the OAA Red Championships, finishing in the league in second.
Lake Orion took first place at the championships, finishing the league in first.
“We didn’t run badly but we didn’t run enough to win it,” said Boys Cross Country Coach Mike Taylor.
Junior Sam Tanielian led the pack, finishing in third and as All-League for his overall performance. Junior Austin Draving also was All-League after his tenth place finish.
In the league Adam Bruderick finished in 18th; Dan Byrne, 19th; Michael Culver, 20; Nick Moore, 22; and Ian Brennan, 31.
“Culver did a good job,” said Taylor. “Byrne came back to run a respectable race.”
The boys head to the MHSAA Regionals, with their goal to make it in the top three teams to go on to state finals.
Clarkston’s biggest competition comes from Romeo and the Dragons.
“We have to be more determined and focused,” Taylor pointed out. “We aren’t looking to be third. We are looking to take Lake Orion.”
He added Romeo is a tough team and the Wolves were beaten by them in two races earlier in the season.
“I don’t know if they are a beatable team for us,” Taylor said. “For us to beat them they would have to make a mistake. We would have to run well. To beat Orion we just have to run up to our potential. Our focus this week is run up to what we are capable of doing.”
The race is at Goodells County Park on Saturday. The park is located in Goodells, 8264 County Park Drive.
