Runners reach for the top

Runners placed in second at the Jackson Invitational on Saturday. Saline, ranked first in Division 1, took first place during the meet.
‘It was a good run,? said Clarkston Girls Cross Country Coach Mike Franko. ‘It’s an OK place to be, but there’s room to improve. I certainly think we will get better.
The girls took six spots in the top 30 as they competed against 134 runners.
Kristen Smith placed in third with a time of 18:24 behind Gabrielle Anzalone from Grand Blanc and Sara Kroll from Livonia Churchill. Natalie Smith took seventh (19:12), Andrea Butler took 22nd (20:05), Mende Gleiss in 24th (20:07), Olivia Allen in 26th (20:11) and Tiffany Kincaid in 30th (20:13).
Kincaid didn’t place her best because she was under the weather, but Franko said she will be better in time for this Saturday’s Midwest Meet of Champs in at Hillard Darby High School in Ohio.
On Tuesday the girls competed in the OAA Jamboree at Stoney Creek Metro Parkway.
‘We are using it as training,? said Franko. ‘Some of the girls will be sitting out to rest.
They placed third behind Rochester Adams and Troy. They look forward to racing against them again in the last OAA meet scheduled for next Thursday.
