Brandon Twp.- Sue Roberts secretly hoped the rummage sale last week for the Ortonville Community Emergency Fund would raise $8,000.
When it was over Sept. 19 and the tally from three days was counted, she and other OCEF volunteers were in tears.
The sale raised $11,586 for the food pantry.
‘We were so happy, we were crying,? she said. ‘We about fell over, we doubled what we did last year.?
Roberts attributes the increase to very generous donors and exceptional items given for the sale from a local family who is moving to Arizona and donated quality furniture and pieces from travel overseas.
The funds for the food pantry are always needed, but especially now, said Roberts, with a new wave of lay-offs and new families signing up for assistance.
