Soccer reins in Smith’s hands

Like many members of the Clarkston varsity girls soccer team, Sarah Smith moved up from junior varsity team this year. There is one major differentiating factor though ? she will be coaching.
Smith took over the CHS girls soccer program near the beginning of this school year and recently broke training camp for her first season at the helm of a varsity squad.
‘It’s been exciting,? Smith said.
Smith is the Wolves third coach in three years.
‘I just want the girls to know they can depend on me and know that I’m going to be here,? Smith said.
Smith served as an assistant coach on last year’s varsity team and coached the junior varsity team.
The experience has been a little intimidating so far, but Smith credits Clarkston Athletic Director Dan Fife with easing the transition.
‘I am learning as I go, but I have a tremendous support staff,? said Smith, who also credit’s her assistant and JV coach Angela Humphreys.
Smith played soccer for four years at Flushing High School and competed on club teams during college. She earned her teaching degree from University of Michigan-Flint and is a second-year language arts teacher at Clarkston Junior High School.
