According to recent study by Safewise.com, Independence Township and Springfield Township are two of the top 50 of Michigan’s safest cities of 2022.
Data taken into consideration included violent crimes, property crime incidents, murders, and robberies.
“Public safety is extremely important to Springfield Township, and we are proud to be consistently ranked among the top safest cities in Michigan,” said Springfield Township Supervisor Laura Moreau. “Planning policies have helped preserve and protect our small-town quality of life, and our residents have shown strong support for police, fire, and EMS services. As a community, we are grateful for our outstanding fire department and excellent, long-standing relationship with the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.”
Independence Township Substation Commander Lt. Richard Cummins was equally elated with the report.
“I think I can give some credit to the hard-working deputies here at the substation,” said Cummins. “I also think some credit should go to the community leaders, but most of the credit should go to the citizens in the township and the city. We have a good relationship with the citizens of Independence Township and the city of Clarkston and that goes a long way.
“The sheriff’s office gets a lot of support from the community and that makes a good team when it comes to the safety of this community my book.”
Springfield Township Fire Chief J. David Feichtner added his thoughts.
“This would not have been possible without the hard work of the men and women of the Springfield Township Fire Department who stand ready to respond to the citizens and visitors during their time of need,” Feichtner said.
