Success in season opener

Lady Kickers made each of their shots count in their season opener against Farmington, March 26.
They made three shots on the goal – sinking each one to win the game, 3-1.
‘We did a good job of capitalizing on our opportunities in front of the net,? said Clarkston Girls Varsity Soccer Head Coach Sarah Wasilk. ‘Their defense is tough. Their whole team pressured the ball really well. We didn’t take very good care of the ball today but we still managed to pull out a win. We didn’t have very many opportunities but the ones we did have – we scored.?
The Lady Falcons opened the first half with possession of the ball and quickly headed into the Wolves? turf.
They made a shot six minutes into to the game and sophomore Clarkston goalie Kayla Grzesiak was ready as she blocked it from going in.
The Wolves gained control of the ball minutes later and took it deep into Farmington’s territory.
Sophomore defender Brooke Henney passed the ball to senior forward Allison Roberts. She ran right of the net before taking her shot and putting it in with 28:11 on the scoreboard.
‘She had a great goal,? said Wasilk. ‘She got her head up and she placed it right in the back of the net.?
Farmington attempted to tie the score but attempts were blocked by defenders and Grzesiak.
It was Clarkston who scored again with 14 second left in the first half. This time it was sophomore Morgan Halligan. With defense only a few feet away she sped up, heading towards the net. She placed it in the back of the net, putting the score, 2-0.
‘She had great speed up top,? Wasilk said.
Farmington put more pressure on the Wolves in the second half and making more of a push on the defense and scored 12 minutes into the half.
‘We talked about it at half time,? Wasilk added. ‘I had a feeling that’s what they would do. We didn’t adjust very well to it at first but the last part of the second half I thought we did a better job of keeping them out of our end.?
Sophomore Madison Herbert took a shot and the goalie punched it out of the net. With 24 minutes to go in the game, the girls set up for a corner kick. Farmington’s goalie knocked it right back out. Herbert passed it to senior Morgan Todd in the box and she sent it into the corner.
Grzesiak had three saves during the game and the girls made three shots on the net.
They play at Bloomfield Lahser next Tuesday.
