The Clarkston Varsity Wrestling team competed in the Dakota Festival during the weekend, posting wins over Stoney Creek and Goodrich.
They defeated the Cougars 63-18 with wins in 11 weight classes. Hayden Payne started the scoring with a technical fall over Seth Luhmann in the 160-pound weight class, 23-8 at 5:29 mark. Gabriel Gipe (130) won his match over Parker Yearego in a major decision, 15-5.
The remaining nine weight classes were won with pins: Collin Trevino (171) over Steven Lambert, 2:48; Angelo Marino (189) over Sam Allen, 1:39; Jacob Jones (215) over Matthew Daines, 1:00; Dru Martin (103) over Zack Gittens, 1:10; Auggie Anderson (112) over Cade Odrobina, 3:15; Ashton Anderson (125) over Luke Gittens, 3:00; Presley Pearce (140) over Tim Ha, 1:25; Connor Ulrich (145) over Jake Schuman, 1:40; and Logan Miracle over Zach Hager, 2:55.
The Wolves posted a 48-24 victory over Goodrich with wins in nine matches. Five matches were won with pins by Drew Stark (215) over Zach Schmitz, 55 seconds; Martin over Herremias Cheff, 51 seconds; Auggie Anderson over Hunter Stayton, 28 seconds; Owen Masters (135) over Reid Highlen, 1:10; and Ulrich over Jayden Compton, 4:33.
Gipe won his match over William Garrard in an ultimate tie breaker, 3-2 and Frank Davis (189) won his match over Kevin Patterson, 5-3. Jones (285) and Ashton Anderson won their matches with voids.
The Wolves opened the week with defeating Rochester on January 15, 56-12.
Trevino opened meet with a 7-2 win over Anthony Piccirilli in the 171-pound weight class. The Wolves took the next two matches with Frank Davis (189) winning in a major decision 12-2 over Nick Terenzi; and Jones winning 6-2 against Joshua Smith. Clarkston won five matches with pins, starting with Martin with a fall over Adam Korb, 1:12; Masters over Enido Shyti, 2:44; Ulrich over Ronin Mason, 2:57; Miracle over Christopher Cox, 4:40; and Payne over Ben Trevarrow, 1:51.
Ashton Anderson earned five points winning his match over Adrian Adiwidjaja with a 15-0 technical fall, 5:12.
Auggie Anderson and Gipe won their matches with major decisions. Anderson posted a 14-0 win over Gerardo Sierra and Gipe a 15-2 win over Luke Adair. Pearce won his match over Sam Pizzo, 3-0.
The Wolves are home this Wednesday with the dual meet beginning at 5:30 p.m. They head to Richmond on Saturday.
