Village officer earns Distinguished Service Award

Oxford Village Police Officer Jeremy Gravis was presented a Distinguished Service Award/Ribbon for his ‘exemplary performance and personal commitment? to the department at Tuesday’s council meeting.
‘This award is given out to officers who perform well beyond their normal duties as a police officer,? said Chief Mike Neymanowski.
Last year, Gravis, a part-time officer, led the department in traffic safety by issuing 1,619 traffic citations.
‘Your diligent patrol efforts made you the top officer in felony and misdemeanor arrests,? Neymanowski said.
Gravis also led the department in drunken driving arrests, a fact recognized by Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
In addition to his regular duties, Gravis also took time to attend training and become certified in commercial vehicle traffic safety enforcement.
Neymanowski said Gravis ‘addressed many safety violations and traffic complaints concerning trucks? driving through the village.
As a result of Gravis? dedication and enforcement efforts, the department received the 2006 Award for Excellence in Commercial Vehicle Safety from the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police.
Neymanowski noted that Gravis was ‘solely responsible for this award.?
His efforts in commercial vehicle safety also made it possible for the department to receive a $6,000 grant that was used to purchase new equipment.
‘This outstanding performance, dedication to duty and plain hard work has made you a credit to this agency and the community you serve,? Neymanowski said.
