Wilson hired as village’s new bldg. inspector

Local architect R. James Wilson was hired by the Oxford Village Council last week to perform building inspector and plan review services for the municipality as an independent contractor.
Wilson, who owns the downtown architectural firm of Wilson & Associates, was one of only three applicants for the position. He replaces Eric Pearson, who was fired Nov. 28.
Per the contract, Wilson will be paid a set schedule of fees based on the type of work performed.
If asked to address property maintenance and code matters, Wilson will be paid $25 per hour for up to 10 hours a week. He will also be paid $25 an hour when required to attend various village meetings.
To avoid any conflicts of interest, Wilson will not be conducting any plan reviews or building inspections on projects prepared by his architectural firm.
‘In those cases, the village will have the other building inspector, Dan Murray, do the reviews and inspections,? wrote Manager Joe Young in a memo to council.
A separate motion by council to appoint Wilson as the village’s state-approved building official failed in a 2-2 tie vote.
