Workplace death in Independence Township

A 61-year-old DTE worker from Milford was killed in Independence Township the evening of April 4 after a piece of equipment fell on top of him.
According to a report from the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA), the fatal incident occurred just after 7 p.m. at an electrical substation.
The report states that an electrical maintenance journeyman, part of a multi-person crew, was working to dismantle a transformer when a radiator assembly came loose and struck him, causing fatal injuries.
Independence Township Fire Department officials responded to the scene and found the employee lying on the ground, and immediately started life-saving procedures.
Unfortunately, the man was pronounced dead a short while later at an area hospital.
No other details were available as of press time.
According to MIOSHA, this is the seventh workplace-related death so far this year.
In 2022, there were 43 MIOSHA-related fatalities, none in Clarkston. The year 2009 saw the lowest with 24.
