INDEPENDENCE TWP. — The community has the opportunity to honor the 1,152 veterans buried at Lakeview Cemetery.
The Sashabaw Plains Chapter of the National Daughters of the American Revolution will be partnering for the first time with Wreaths Across America to honor and remember the veterans buried at the cemetery.
Veterans from all wars from the American Revolution to Afghanistan War are buried at Lakeview Cemetery, located at 6150 White Lake Road.
Each wreath costs $17 and can be placed on a veteran’s grave of your choice or any veteran in the cemetery. Donors have the option to also purchase wreaths for Great Lakes Cemetery and Arlington National Cemetery. A donation sheet will be on the Sashabaw Plains Chapter Facebook page and the Lakeview Cemetery Facebook page.
To purchase a wreath, send a check made out to Sashabaw Plains Chapter, NSDAR to 9740 Reese Road, Clarkston, MI 48348.
A short ceremony will be held on Wreaths Across America Day, Dec. 16, at noon at Lakeview Cemetery to place the wreaths. The public is invited.
